The workflow
Generate a transcript, correct names and technical terms, then choose a caption treatment. LumaTake includes 100+ caption styles and can deliver captions in the video or as separate SRT/VTT files.
Process the speech on your Mac
Caption transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech tools. Available languages depend on the speech engine, hardware, and language assets available on your Mac. The app checks those capabilities; a missing language pack can require a download before transcription.
Local transcription describes where the media is processed. It does not mean the whole app avoids the internet: account access, purchases, asset downloads, and connected destinations have their own network requirements.
Correct the words before choosing the look
A polished style cannot fix a wrong product name. Review names, acronyms, numbers, and any sentence spoken over loud background audio. Listen at edit boundaries to make sure a trimmed pause has not left a caption out of sync.
- Generate the transcript for the spoken language.
- Read it while listening to the original speech.
- Correct the wording and timing where needed.
- Choose a style and inspect long lines at the final frame size.
LumaTake includes caption typography, layout, emphasis, safe-area controls, and kinetic animation options. You can also place selected caption words behind the presenter. Check the subject edges and readability in the exported result; segmentation quality depends on the shot. Use animated emphasis selectively so it supports the explanation instead of competing with the demonstration.
Choose between a styled picture and an editable subtitle file
| Output | Useful for | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Burned-in captions | A social clip that must show your exact style | The words become part of the image and cannot be switched off. |
| SRT sidecar | A destination or editor that accepts timed subtitles | The receiving player controls the visual treatment. |
| VTT sidecar | Web-video and compatible subtitle workflows | Check the destination’s supported features. |
SRT and VTT import are also available. See export and subtitle formats before handing files to another editor or publishing system.
Check the caption against the actual footage
Preview a long sentence over the busiest part of the screen, not only against a plain background. Leave room for the presenter and the destination’s controls. Review the finished export without sound: can a viewer follow the instruction and still read the interface?
Speech captions do not automatically describe every visual action or meaningful sound. Add context where an instruction depends on a click, alert, or change that the words do not explain.
Questions about this workflow
How many languages are supported?
The app uses the languages available through Apple’s speech tools on your Mac. The available list depends on the engine, system, and installed language assets, so there is no fixed language count promised here.
Are captions sent to a cloud transcription service?
The local caption-transcription workflow processes speech on your Mac. Connecting an external destination is a separate choice and has different data flows.
Can I import subtitles made elsewhere?
Yes. LumaTake accepts SRT and VTT subtitle files. Check their timing against the current edit after import.
